Fehler 1335

Error: Error 1335: The cabinet file . . . is corrupt and cannot be used while installing NIS

Situation:
When you install Norton Internet Security (NIS), you see the error message Error 1335. The cabinet file (cabs.m12) required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used.

If you ignore the error message, it repeats with a different cabinet file name.

Solution:
There are two possible solutions to this problem. While either solution may resolve the problem, it is best to do both to avoid similar problems in the future. If the problem is not resolved after following both steps, repair your copy of Internet Explorer.

Solution 1: Reinstall the Microsoft Installer:
Reinstall the Microsoft Installer. Follow the instructions in the document How to reinstall the Microsoft Installer. Note that in some cases, the Microsoft Installer may need to be removed before being reinstalled.

Solution 2: Install NIS from the hard drive:
Install NIS from the hard drive. Follow the instructions in the document How to install NIS 2002 or NPF 2002 from the hard drive.

To repair Internet Explorer:

1. Close NIS or NPF.
2. Open the Windows Control Panel.
3. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
If using Windows 98, click the Windows Setup tab.
If using Windows 2000/XP, click Add or Remove Windows Components.
4. Click Internet Explorer, and then click Add/Remove or Change/Remove.
5. Check Repair Internet Explorer, and then click OK.
6. Follow the prompts.

If the problem continues, try updating Internet Explorer (IE). Follow these steps to update IE:
1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Click Tools.
3. Click Windows Update.
4. Follow the instructions on the screen.
