To install the StarOffice 8 Windows version on a Linux server, the following requirements are needed:
1. A Linux Server with a Samba share
2. Windows clients with an active connection to the Samba share
3. Windows clients must be able to create files on the Samba share
To install StarOffice 8 on a Linux server, complete the following steps. In this description the drive S:\ is a mounted Samba share. Complete the following steps:
1. Insert the Windows version of StarOffice 8 in the CD-Rom drive from a Windows client.
2. Start the setup program and use the install option Custom
3. Use as install path e.g. s:\program\staroffice8 and continue the installation.
4. If the installation successful done open the Windows Explorer.
5. Change to the drive S:\ in the directory \program\staroffice8\program and double-click the file soffice.exe.
6. Now a registration dialog comes up. After complete all needed steps StarOffice 8 starts.
By using this procedure the StarOffice 8 program files are on the Linux server and on the Windows client only the user settings are saved.
If StarOffice 8 installed on a Samba share other Windows clients (Users) need only to begin with Step 5.
