No WWW until another PC uses WLAN

I hope someone here has something more to support my theory about a problem on a customer PC. I think I know what's happening but the cause is elusive.
This problem has occurred twice over a period of two months.
Scenario:

MEDION XP PC with built-in WLAN adapter linked to a TCOM DSL Modem/WLAN combination. Signal is 30%+, quality 90%.
Normal operation never fails.

The customer most house power twice and after each restore of power he could not get into Internet. The WLAN tool shows the link to the DSL HW is active. All DSL Modem LEDs are green.

Each time this failed I brought my laptop to his house and linked my WLAN adapter to his WLAN. Immediately my IE opened the Internet. I clicked refresh on his IE and it also opened Internet. Thereafter, all was OK. He can shutdown and reboot and the IE works.
That may sound crazy but last night he called me with the same problem and all I needed to do was link my laptop onto his WLAN, start IE and then his IE started working. No, I do not use drugs. He does not either. Telekom is telling me it's an option in his ISP SW.
It looks to me that his HW is not in SYNC or something with getting a valid IP is going south. Status of the network link during the failure does not show anything missing or in error.

Any thoughts on this appreciated.

Solving your problem you have to take a look in the properties os the Wlan-adapter.
Maybe there are mor than one WLan-connections available, than you have to change the properties of the customers connection to preferred connection, maybe you can change to only use this connection.

No problem - important is to meet in the middle somewhere.
Thanks for the tip. I think the customer has one WLAN built-in and one standard LAN
adapter (not connected). This is one of those Aldi/MEDION PCs.
I'll check his settings next time I stop by. The interesting thing is
that the status of the WLAN/Netzwerk adapter is normal as if the network is 100% OK..

Hi,
what i meant was that there are maybe more than one Networks in reach of the customers PC (maybe some neighbours use WLan too!). So the PC is trying to connect to the best (or the first in alphabetical order) but can't because the accesscode is wrong.
Now you have to tell the PC which connection is the one to use.

Verstanden - aber das kann nicht so einfach sein..

When I bring my laptop to the customer I open my Belkin Wireless manager and then click site survey which shows me the WLAN scan window. Here I can see if there is any WLAN available. At this customer there is only one - his. The WLAN HW in my laptop scans the area and his is the only active WLAN found. So all I have to do is change the SSID on my adapter to match his SSID and I'm in. The signal/quality values are 100% identical to the values appearing on his PC when he runs the WLAN-Adapter tool.
Once the WLAN link is active on my laptop I get into WWW instantly.
I then click REFRESH on the customer's PC and voila it starts working.

Dass dein Deutsch offenbar besser ist als im ersten Posting anzunehmen war. Scheinbar reicht es ja auch für deinen deutschen PC-Service.

Arbeitet dein Bekannter mit Wlan-Software oder regelt er seine Wlan-Verbindung allein über XP?

Der verwendet Business T-DSL über PPoE.
Ich glaube, dass er kein T-Online Start Center hat - d.h., dass
(wahrscheinlich) alles über XP Netzwerk läuft (außer WLAN Hardware).
