Hallo,
Mein Sound-Problem seit Installation W2K:
Hatte vorher win98, sounds waren gut.
http://www.turtlebeach.com/site/products/santacruz/

W2K ProSP3 has been installed by an engineer. He obviously didn't install the 4in1 VIA driver correctly....
... Then I read on your site (archive) that you have a BIOS fix. I downloaded this fix, in the txt-file there is not a word mentioned about the beep, like it is mentioned on the download site (as #3!).
VIA ARENA FORUM also told me that for KT133 NO higher 4in1 driver than version 4.38.
Others in VIA Arena Forum told me different, telling me I could try with the version 4.43, one told me it worked fine with his KT133...
... Since a 4in1 driver doesn't seem to be the only reason for the bad sound, what could it be ? ( I experience it both in WMP9 and in winamp!!).
ANTWORT VON DFI:
I think your problem is more software related rather than caused by hardware. Here is our suggestions towards your problem which you could try:
1. If you are using W2K, please also install SP6. (wer hat davon gehört - W2K + SP6!!!!!)
2. Install the VIA 4-in-1 driver, the latest from VIA arena site.
3. Download the latest BIOS from our website and update it accordingly (http://www.dfi.com.tw/Upload/BIOS/AK74EC1105.ZIP). Details on how to update your motherboard BIOS please refer to our website's FAQ section on www.dfi.com
This motherboard should work perfectly regardless of what kind of OS you are installing. As long as all the necessary drivers are installed in the correct ways.
DFI Europe.
MEINE ANTWORT:
... using W2K please also install SP6 ?
Even the updates are for SP4 (yet to come!)!
As I told you, I have W2K Pro SP3
... The latest VIA 4in1 driver is the VIA Hyperion 4in1 v 4.47.
I was told in VIAarena forum that for KT133 the NO HIGHER 4in1 than 4.38!!!!
...In my device-manager I find
VIA Tech PCI-to ISA bridge >
Microsoft driver from 12/07/1999
date: 12/07/1999, v 5.0.2195.1
VIA Tech Energieverwaltungscontoller >
driver: MS, date: 12/07/1999, v 5.0.2195.1
How come that the VIA forum tells me different (no higher 4in1 than 4.38????).
I have the Award Modular BIOS v6.00 PG on my PC, in your archives I just found (until now) AK740322.ZIP, which has to be flashed.
QUEST: the version of the BIOS update you sent me in here is a totally different version than I find when I search for MY board AK74-EC in the archive. Why didn't I find this new update version ?
ANTWORT Darauf s. Teil3 (sorry!)

How to flash BIOS ?
Answer :
1. Download the appropriate BIOS update from the Download section according to the motherboard model and PCB (Printed Circuit Board) version.
2. Extract the BIOS binary file and the flash utility program from the zipped file using applications as WinZip.
3. There should be THREE files being extracted from the zipped file. They are: *.EXE (Dos-icon, AWDFLASH.EXE), *.BIN (6A6LMD4E.BIN) and *.TXT file.
4. Copy the *.BIN and *.EXE file on to a floppy disk and reboot your system from the floppy drive.
5. Type in the following command under DOS prompt (NOT under windows!):
A:\>[executable] [filename].bin /Sn /Py Was genau muss ich da reinschreiben?
OR
A:\>[executable] /?
for detailed instructions.
6. Reset your computer AFTER the completion of BIOS flash process.
7. To check whether your BIOS has been updated successfully please refer to the BIOS date code shown on the bottom left hand corner of the boot up screen. ?????
8. Please LOAD OPTIMAL SETTINGS or LOAD BIOS SETUP DEFAULT in the BIOS setup menu during the first system boot up after the flashing the BIOS. ????? WARNING: Please be very cautious during the BIOS flash process, your system may fail to boot if the BIOS was not programmed correctly.
Und wenn was schief geht, ist Machine kaputt, oder was????
